Spinal Cord Stimulation

Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is an implantable technology that is used for the treatment of chronic, intractable pain.  Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) works by delivering electrical impulses, and provides relief by altering the pain signals before they reach the brain.  Instead of feeling the pain, you feel a tingling sensation.  You are able to adjust the strength and area of stimulation using a remote control. When Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is successful, it provides significant, long term relief, reduces the need for pain medications, and improves function.

To determine if Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) therapy and permanent implantation is indicated, a Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) trial will be performed first.  The trial is temporary, lasting up to a week, allowing for the determination if Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is an appropriate treatment option.  Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) is performed under fluoroscopic guidance (x-ray) to ensure safe and accurate placement.
